Ask anyone who has ever been to Malaysia: what is the best thing about this country? You’ll probably get the same answer — FOOD. I mean, besides our beautiful beaches and islands of course. But yeah, FOOD! It’s definitely one of the benefits of having cultural diversity in the country. We have staple local favourites like nasi lemak, roti canai, laksa, which are available all year round. Then, we have some seasonal treats where the locals either create something new or tweak some recipes and BAM! They become a trending dessert for a couple months or so, ie. Keria Gula Melaka (remember this?). That being said, I have noticed one trend that has been sticking around for quite awhile (years) : Biscoff Cheesecake. Though this is not exactly a Malaysian dish, but I rarely see this dessert being sold openly at anywhere else. For that, I’ve dedicated myself to indulge — I mean, to test out some of the best versions of it in Klang Valley and listing them here so that everyone from all parts of the world would get a chance to try them too! Whenever you’re in the country that is…
Quick note : Biscoff is a brand of speculoos cookies under the famous Belgian bakery, Lotus Bakeries. The name Biscoff is derived from the words Biscuits and Coffee. Speculoos or Speculaas is a type of spiced shortcrust biscuit traditionally baked for consumption before or on St Nicholas’ day and around Christmas.
Dotty’s Pastries & Coffee
I ate my first ever Speculoos Cheesecake here, at Dotty’s in 2016. So I am guessing they could be one of the first few bakers to make this available in Malaysia? Correct me if I am wrong!
Dotty’s version has the silkiest texture, without having a strong cream cheese flavour. In fact, the melted Biscoff spread on the top layer AND in the middle makes it very, very decadent. I do however find the cookie base at the bottom and side, a little dry, especially towards the end of eating the cake. The additional whipped cream on top, I feel is unfortunately redundant. It doesn’t really add to the flavour so I usually just put it aside and enjoy the cake on it’s own. That being said, this cake melts quickly and loses its shape fast in our humid weather. So gobble it down quickly!
Best thing about Dotty’s is that they have 3 outlets in Kuala Lumpur. So you can either enjoy this on a coffee date or if you prefer to indulge this in the comfort of your own home, there are multiple food delivery partners that can help you get the cake to your doorstep. Either way, no hassles of booking slots to get a slice since they usually make this fresh every day. Take note that you might also end up ordering tons of other things on their menu (like that salted egg pasta..yums).

Cake In A Jar by AJ
Cake in A Jar by AJ was founded in 2018, selling only one flavour of homemade cheesecake at that time. It was of course, their signature Biscoff Cheesecake. Now, they’ve grown to have at least 6 different flavours of cake-in-a-jar. So, you know they must be doing something right!
Some people prefer their cakes to be light and fluffy, while others prefer that rich and creamy taste in every bite. This, is definitely for the latter. As you can see from the photo, AJ is NOT stingy with the Biscoff layers! Regardless of the jar sizes, she makes sure that you get to taste both the cream cheese and the spiced biscuits with every scoop. I do enjoy the tangy flavour that comes out from the cheese layers, ever so subtly that Biscoff still remains the dominant flavour. Each jar is also topped with their special homemade Biscoff sauce, which is undoubtedly a crowd pleaser.
Personally, I love the versatility of having cheesecake (or any dessert for that matter) in jars, mainly because I can easily sneak it up my room in the middle of the night for when those pesky hunger pangs decide to make appearance. In addition to that, they are kept fresh throughout from having a tight lid to cover if you’re not the type to finish the whole serving in one sitting (me). Cake in A Jar by AJ can also cater door gifts for big events — just make sure to be reasonable and make your bookings ahead of time okay. They are based in Shah Alam but deliveries can be made to other areas via third party delivery providers.
Price : MYR 13 (175ml), MYR 15 (235ml), MYR 17 (300ml), MYR 19 (375ml)

The Bittersweet Bakers
The Bittersweet Bakers is the latest baker to join the bandwagon. BUT! Don’t let that newbie status fool you, even after just operating for a couple months, they’ve already built strong loyal network of followers (myself included of course). Founded by two friends who love baking as much as eating, you can rest assured that the cheesecakes are made with love and passion.
These Biscoff Cheesecakes really do taste as good as they look. First bite felt like a burst of sweet cloud in my mouth. Unlike any other cheesecake, this one has an airy mousse-like consistency which is so delicious. Best part of this cake is how the two flavours from the cream cheese and the melted biscuit sauce balance out each other. The sweetness come specifically from Biscoff and the cheese layer provides a light creamy, subtle tanginess. Together, they’re a match made in heaven. No shame in admitting I’ve eaten 2 pieces by myself in one sitting, and still wanted more.
These Biscoff Cheesecake comes in multiple sizes. You can order a box of 4 minis, or full sized at 6″ or 9″. However, expect to make orders at least 5 days in advance because their slots fill up really fast! Also based in Shah Alam, they deliver to other areas via third party delivery services.
Price : MYR 45 (1 box of 4 minis), MYR 90 (6″ full sized), MYR 180 (9′ full sized)

This Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake looks fairly simple but there’s nothing basic about the taste! The super smooth and creamy cheese filling has a strong tangy taste, complementing the sweet melted Biscoff spread on top. The biscuit base at the bottom provides enough amount of crunch to give the whole bite a little bit of texture. There’s just something so fresh about this cake that it’s hard to stop myself from going for a second serving. It’s a Biscoff Cheesecake party in my mouth with every bite! Even after being at room temperature for more than half an hour, the cake still held its shape.
You can order the Biscoff Cheesecake by slices or if you’re constantly hungry like me, go for a 6″ whole cake! However, for full sized cakes, kindly make the order 2 to 3 days in advanced. You can either choose to have it delivered via third party delivery services or you can opt for a self pick up in Setia Alam.
