Whenever I visit a new place, I like to bring home souvenirs. But instead of getting typical touristy souvenirs like keychains or fridge magnets, I tend to look for something I could use back home — something that would one day draw me back to the place I got it from. One of those things would be a local beauty product (cause shipping rate’s a pain most of the time). So, if you are visiting Malaysia and you are a beauty product junkie like me, consider Asly Beauty — a local homegrown, cruelty-free brand under Dynamics Inc. More specifically, have a look at the Nude Attitude Collection.
What is in the Asly Beauty Nude Attitude collection?
The press kit resembles a VHS tape casing — something Millenials would be too familiar with. Upon opening, it reveals three vertical boxes containing the Matte Generation Lip Powder (MGLP) in the three shades formulated for this collection : Never Been Kissed, Clueless and She’s All That — paying homage to our favourite 90’s chick flick. The MGLPs are formulated with vegan-friendly ingredients and they are free of parabens!
So how does this differ from the endless nude matte lip creams that we already have in the market? Well, let me start off with a backstory.
Below is a picture of myself, without any lipstick on. As you can see, I have a rather fair skin (sometimes referred to as pale) and it is an absolute nightmare finding the right nude coloured lipstick, especially here in Malaysia (or even Asia). And yes, I already have Sephora app installed on my phone BUT I am always on the lookout for THE lipstick — you know, the one with the right colour AND the right texture?
For reference, I use the following :
- NARS Sheer Glow Foundation – Siberia
- NARS Creamy Concealer – Chantilly
- Tarte Shape Tape Concealer – Fair
So, when I first saw photos of girls wearing these specific MGLP colours, I thought they looked gorgeous on medium/tanned to deeper skin tones — which means, they’ll probably look really dark on me.. right? Like a deep tawny brown lip colour seen on every 90’s supermodel back then? Thus, I unboxed each shades and seemed like this further strengthened my theory. I thought to myself ‘maybe, just maybe, the lightest shade of the three could pass off as a nude colour on me’. The moment I swatched them on my arm, I knew I was eating my own words for lunch and dinner. Hypothesis salah (eng : wrong) — thank you, next!
Initially, I was so confused! Suddenly these look like they were made for my skin tone! Could it be possible? Did someone finally crack the code on universal nude colours? Also, application is made easy, breezy, squeezy as they all come in squeeze tube body with slanted fuzzy tip applicator making them perfect for modern women on the go.

So, What’s the verdict?
Colour : Three shades of nude and that’s more than enough to suit any skin tone — literally! ALL three colours are universally-flattering. This is THE main reason I am recommending this to everyone of any skin tone around the globe! Plus, I truly love the versatility of each shade. You can use any of these to glam up your look OR you can even add this to your daily staples for a more natural, I-woke-up-like-this do.
Pigment : With the darkest shade out of the three, I had no problem using only one swipe to get a full coverage. However, I find that the lighter the shade, the more application is needed to completely even out the colour on my lips. On the bright side, it doesn’t feel heavy even with multiple layers.
Texture : Unlike a typical matte lipstick which usually comes in a liquid formula, this one is fairly creamy. MGLP is actually a lip mousse that sets to a powder finish. It glides on smooth and has a similar feel to NYX’s Lip Cream. It sits on the lips comfortably and because of the creamy formula, it is somewhat moisturising — did not dry my lips during AND after wearing this.
Scent : These MGLPs are mildly Peach scented. Usually I am not a fan of scented lipsticks but these ones didn’t bother me too much as they’re not too overpowering.
Longevity : Unfortunately these are not kiss-proof. It stays on for as long as you don’t eat, drink or lick your lips. If you do any of those, then reapplication is a must. But even if you decide not to, it leaves a slight tint on your lips.
In conclusion, I personally think this is a good fuss free lip colour to carry around especially when you are travelling. The shades are universally flattering with moderate staying power and application is fairly quick.
AslyBeauty does not ship worldwide (other than Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore) at the time this was written. Hence, whenever you are in Malaysia, do check out their website or Instagram on how you can get your hands on these goodies. Each MGLP retails for RM 55.
